Loewy extrusion press returned to service at Reconvilier following overhaul Following a lengthy shutdown for technical maintenance, the Loewy extrusion press at the Swissmetal plant in Reconvilier today recommenced production. The 2,000-ton press, installed in 1962, is mainly used in the manufacture of wires and rods. Swissmetal was required to renew the press's electrical control system in order to bring it into line with the latest technical safety standards, among other reasons. The planned investment in the extrusion press got underway back in 2005, but had to be shelved in early 2006 owing to the month-long work stoppage by employees at the site. The Loewy press is scheduled to remain in operation until the required production capacity becomes available at the new hot-forming centre at the Dornach plant. The Loewy extrusion press at Reconvilier will then serve as a standby for any eventuality. |
