Messier-Dowty Builds Landing Gear Components for Aircraft using a Special Alloy from Swissmetal Dornach, January 16, 2009 Messier-Dowty, the largest manufacturer of landing gear in the world and part of the Safran Group, approved the special alloy CN8 of Swissmetal for the construction of secure aircraft landing gears. Landing gears from Messier-Dowty are used in airliners by Boeing (Boeing 787), Airbus (various models), and other renowned manufacturers. The certification was granted following a thorough qualification process that comprised a plethora of different tests.
Swissmetal 2008 already received approval for components from the defence company BAE Systems. As such, the current certification represents a further step towards the sectors (aerospace, oil industry) of strategic importance to Swissmetal for its high-strength special alloys. Further accounts of qualification processes are expected within the next few months. |
