Swissmetal suggests round table Dornach - Reconvilier, 31 January 2006 Swissmetal today invited the employers' association SWISSMEM and the UNIA trade union to a round table meeting with representatives of Swissmetal's Board of Directors and management. The aim of the meeting is give all three parties an opportunity to gain a better understanding of each other's position and perspectives.
Swissmetal is not willing to enter into negotiations on matters not covered by the collective labour agreement. Work has still not resumed at Reconvilier following a meeting of the employees on 25 January 2006. The strike is not about any points covered by the collective labour agreement and is therefore in contravention of the law. To protect its own interests Swissmetal decided on 27 January to respond to the illegal strike by staging a lock-out, or temporary closure of the plant. In the current situation, the company is entitled to take this step under the terms of the federal constitution. At the same time Swissmetal is offering workplaces at Dornach to those employees from Reconvilier who are willing to work. A number of them have taken up this offer.
Swissmetal remains willing to resume the talks that were started with the employee representative body and works council. However, resumption of the talks is made dependent on an immediate return to work. |
